Back by popular demand is our One Bold Summer mentoring program. This summer it’s out with the old and in with the bold for all Queer and Gender Nonconforming (QGNC) Youth who join us.

One Bold Summer is a free 8 week summer mentoring program for QGNC youth (ages 12-18) in Los Angeles. 50 QGNC Youth will be paired with 12 QGNC Mentors for a summer filled activities that inspire youth to be bold, discover their true selves, create supportive relationships, and take risks.

Twice a week, youth will meet in their teams with their mentors and once a week get an opportunity to connect further one-on-one with their mentors. We’ll also host several events for youth and mentors to engage in. This summer we’ll host two labs both virtually and in person - Storytelling Lab & Accelerator Lab. By the end of the summer youth will build an extensive network of QGNC peers and QGNC adults.

What Can QGNC Youth Expect This Summer?

Youth will start off in our Storytelling Lab where they’ll have the opportunity to connect with their mentors and peers around the power of storytelling. Shortly after Storytelling Lab youth will jump into teams igniting our Accelerator Lab. Youth will participate in both labs and will receive supplies for all activities. Each lab is three weeks long.

 

Youth will take a four-week journey with their mentors through the power of storytelling. What are storytelling arcs? How can I use the power of my story in other parts of my life? What moments in your life make great stories. Youth will learn new methods and approaches to identifying true, engaging personal stories that they might not have realized they had in them. We end this lab with a storytelling showcase where both mentors and youth will have the opportunity to share their newly developed stories.

 

Have you ever thought of the next breakthrough idea? Are you someone who loves to problem solve? This lab will activate all of those thoughts! In this four week lab, youth will team up and imagine the next great idea. Youth will learn to be fearless, open up, say yes, make stuff, and bet small. Youth will also get to meet QGNC Professionals from companies such as Hilton, American Airlines, Sony Entertainment, and Twitter. At the end of the four weeks, youth will present with their teams at a Demo Day showcasing to an audience their new ideas. Who knows, maybe your team will create the next idea that takes off!

QGNC Youth

Program Times & Location

Programming will be both virtually and in person on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM. Tuesday and Thursday will be virtual via Zoom. We will also host several events with exciting guests, field trips, and activities.

One Bold Summer Kits

In addition to meeting new friends, gaining mentors, and going through 9 weeks of exciting activities each youth will receive a One Bold Summer Kit. The kit will include items such as: t-shirts, stickers, wristbands, and all the materials for our interactive activities. All of this is included with the program!

QGNC Youth must meet the following criteria to participate:

  • Location - Must live in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino County.

  • Age - 12-18 Years Old.

  • Time - Commitment to 8 weeks of programming (June 15 - August 4)

  • QGNC - Must be exploring or part of the Queer and Gender Nonconforming Community. For those exploring, we welcome you with open arms as we know you may not know for certain (questioning) and we want to give you the space and community to discover.

QGNC Mentors

Program Times & Location

One Bold Summer Kits

Our mentors are changing lives this summer. By putting in their own time to lift up and empower the next generation of youth, all mentors will receive a One Bold Summer Kit. The kit will include: t-shirts, wristbands, pens, materials for all our activities, and much more. We want all mentors to experience the program too!

QGNC Mentors must meet the following criteria to participate:

  • Location - Must live in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino County.

  • Age - Minimum age 21 years old.

  • Time - Commitment to 8 weeks of programming (June 15 - August 4.)

  • Training - Commitment to a virtual orientation (June 8) and one day training (June 10.)

  • Background Check - Must go through a live scan.

  • QGNC - Must be part of the Queer and Gender Nonconforming Community. We love our advocates and we will have future opportunities for you!
