Rainbow Labs Mission
Rainbow Labs emboldens Queer and Gender Nonconforming Youth to discover, curate, and experiment with the elements of a fulfilled life through community building and the lived experiences of mentors.
Our Vision
A world in which all Queer and Gender Nonconforming Youth see themselves as co-creators of an equitable, inclusive, and progressive society.
The Problem
10% of youth in California schools (600K+) and 15% of youth in the juvenile justice system (13K) identify as Queer and/or Gender Non-Confirming (QGNC).
39% of QGNC youth reported considering suicide in the last 12 months. As a result, QGNC Youth is five times more likely to have attempted suicide compared to their heterosexual peers.
Simply put, there is a large gap for a safe, inclusive, peer-driven community in after-school programming for QGNC Youth. So much so that only five of the 5K+ mentoring programs focus on serving this community.
Our Solution
Rainbow Labs creates a series of after-school programming (both in-person and online) seeking to mentor and support underserved QGNC youth ages 12-18.
The content of the labs are designed by QGNC youth for QGNC youth, led by a team of mentors who are trained in trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and youth development.
Rainbow Labs is a safe space to explore identity, life skills, and empower QGNC to participate in real-world applications.
