Los Gatos

Los Gatos: The Los Gatos group created a unique version of a queer zine. We drew inspiration from some of our passions that drive our lives. One of the most difficult things about working with a group is coming to a consensus of what to do. Sometimes we find ourselves having to minimize our ideas to include everyone's thoughts. For this reason, we decided to look into creating something that allowed for our creative freedom. As you can see, each couple of “pages” has their unique feel to it, that’s because they were made specifically by one person for one reason. From our Zine, you are able to learn about sex, queer representation, health care, the queer side of the animal kingdom, and queer relationships. The reason why this project has so much meaning to us all is that we talk about things that we each have experienced and our curiosity. It’s important for us to continue to talk about each of the topics that are present in this zine. With this being said, we are well aware that some people simply do not have the opportunity to enact pride in who they are and talk about their community. Following this fact, we decided to “hide” our zine behind the cover of a “Vogue” magazine— at least now, kids and adults would be able to get a snippet of the queer life without being at risk of outing themselves, looking suspicious in front of family members, receiving backlash and our anything worse. This world can be cruel, but having tangible items like this zine or even supportive people can give you hope.
